Answering the Growing Need: Joining Hands with Haven on the Queensway this Giving Tuesday
#GivingTuesday
We’re hearing the reports everywhere that the need in our cities is great. From food and housing insecurities to loneliness, we face this harsh reality daily.
The GTA’s need is growing rapidly. In Toronto, homelessness more than doubled between 2021 and 2024, rising from about 7,300 to 15,400 people, with 1,615 living outdoors and shelters serving up to 10,000 people nightly. Last year, Mississauga declared food insecurity an emergency after an 8% spike in need. In Toronto, 1 in 4 households faced food insecurity in 2023; a 273% increase from pre-pandemic levels.
Yet what we don’t often see reported are the countless acts of kindness happening around us. A smile, a small donation, or a thoughtful call—these little actions can’t be measured, but they matter.
This Giving Tuesday, we hope to combine those small acts by supporting Haven on the Queensway. Their work goes far beyond handing out food. We get to join the lifeline that empowers their team as they serve the community with compassion.
Take a moment to pray and consider how you can partner with Haven this month. Last year you responded to their call for volunteers; this year, the need is even greater as more families struggle to afford basic necessities.
Let’s answer the call again and see how many individuals and families we can support through Haven on the Queensway.
